چکیده
Abstract A variety of cetacean species inhabit the productive waters offshore Washington State, USA. Although general presence many these has been documented in this region, our understanding fine-scale habitat use is limited. Here, passive acoustic monitoring was used to investigate spatial and temporal distributions ten at three locations Washington. Between 2004 2013, a total 2845 days recordings were collected from sites on continental shelf slope, submarine canyon. Acoustic higher for all farther offshore. Detections highest during fall winter blue ( Balaenoptera musculus ), fin B. physalus humpback whales Megaptera novaeangliae likely related reproductive behavior, while minke acutorostrata ) only detected two days. Odontocetes showed separation, with sperm whale Physeter macrocephalus detections spring, Risso’s Grampus griseus Pacific white-sided dolphins Lagenorhynchus obliquidens summer, Stejneger’s beaked Mesoplodon stejnegeri Cuvier’s Ziphius cavirostris BW37V signal type or spring. There interannual variation most mysticete species, which may be linked oceanographic conditions: increased 2007 2008, 2011. These results inform behavior region aid development conservation strategies suited dynamic conditions that drive distribution.

Predictions from harbor porpoise habitat association models are confirmed by long-term passive acoustic monitoring.
Survey based habitat association models provide good spatial coverage, but only a snapshot in time of a species' occurrence in a particular area. A habitat association model for harbor porpoises was created using data from five visual surveys of the Moray Firth, Scotland. Its predictions were tested over broader temporal scales using data from static passive acoustic loggers, deployed in two co...

The Indian Ocean Sanctuary was established in 1979 in an effort to allow exploited stocks of whales to recover from whaling and to facilitate benign research. Further information is required to establish comprehensive management and conservation measures for species within these waters. The current study took place in the offshore waters of Sri Lanka in early 2003. During three research cruises...

Background SWFSC conducted a dedicated acoustic survey for cetaceans throughout the California Current off the U.S. West Coast in August and September 2016. The survey was called PASCAL: Passive Acoustic Survey of Cetacean Abundance Levels. It was conducted from the NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada (hereafter just “Shimada”), which is quieter vessel than the older vessels used in previous large scale ...
متن کاملPassive Acoustic Monitoring of the Temporal Variability of Odontocete Tonal Sounds from a Long-Term Marine Observatory
The developments of marine observatories and automatic sound detection algorithms have facilitated the long-term monitoring of multiple species of odontocetes. Although classification remains difficult, information on tonal sound in odontocetes (i.e., toothed whales, including dolphins and porpoises) can provide insights into the species composition and group behavior of these species. However,...

Coastal environment is controlled by a complex interaction of physical, chemical, biological, and geological processes. Physical processes are responsible for controlling the transport and distribution of all dissolved and suspended matters in coastal waters. A comprehensive understanding of these processes is crucial to the design and implementation of management strategies that track ecosyste...
